The photographs were taken during various journeys in the Middle East (the Democratic Republic of Congo, Benin, the Central African Republic), in the Middle East (Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory), Asia (Vietnam), the US (New York) and in Europe between 2006 and 2020.
Frederick Swinnen, Belgian, born in Geneva (Switzerland), is a lawyer who worked for the United Nations in Gaza City, Beirut, The Hague, Jerusalem and Bangui and the European Union in Brussels
As a son of a diplomat, he spent his childhood living in various countries, including Switzerland, Spain, Greece, Burundi, Rwanda and the US. He studied law and international law in Leuven, London and Leiden. He started working for the UN in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
At the age of 11, he received a camera with a 50mm lens from his father. Several years later, he started processing films and developing black and white photos in his own dark room in Kigali, Rwanda.
